Here are a few quick bullet points on what we found most interesting:
- 3000 BC – Ancient Egyptians cleaned their teeth by rubbing them with twigs and leaves
- 500 BC – First forms of toothpaste were used in China and India
- 1498 – First bristle toothbrush was invented in China
- 1859 – 26 dentists formed the American Dental Association (ADA)
- 1949 – Oskar Haggar developed the first system of bonding acrylic resin to dentin
I consider myself to be a huge history buff and so I have studied a lot about Ancient Egypt. However, I never knew that they had some of the world’s first dentists or that they bound teeth using gold wiring. Yet, did they bind their teeth much differently than how we bind ours today with braces?
Wow, great read, even after studying all aspects of dentistry, there are still so many things that I never knew.
Very interesting. I’m so glad to have today’s dentistry rather than hundreds/thousands of years ago. Man we have come a long way….And I though my anxiety was bad lol
